About Me

This plate adorned the window shelf at my childhood home as long as I can remember. I don’t know when I looked at it and thought how cool it would be to wear those dresses. Of course, I didn’t realize the amount of time it took to create, wear, clean and store such garments. I just thought they were cool to look at.

When I was 9, my mom taught me to sew. The first actual garment that I made was a dress for myself. It was a simple A-line, and singularly homely. I practiced and improved by making many of my own clothes and doll clothes for friends and relatives. In high school I discovered an ability to design, and I learned how to connect the designs in my head with printed patterns to get the look I wanted. For the first time in my life, I was a little bit cool, as my designs were unique and slightly cutting edge.

Also during high school, I joined a community theatre and did some costuming there—pretty basic stuff—with more renovating what was already there than creating my own.  Fast forward a few years, I was a young mother with three kiddoes. I made matching outfits for them when they were little, and some very creative Halloween costumes. Later prom dresses and wedding dresses were added to my repertoire.

It wasn’t until I started teaching theatre that I really got the chance to design costumes. With a small budget and not much assistance, I developed costumes for about 60 plays during my 25-year career. The research delighted me, as did finding just the right color scheme for each character. My ability to design allowed me to create visually stunning costumes for each play.

It is that delight in research, design and creation that inspired me to begin this company. Here I will partner with you to find the best way to spark your imagination and create a wonderful character for you with a costume.
